On 23 October 2022 [0930] we are walking across Methana Peninsula from the port to the volcano through the ancient paths.
The route
We will start from Methana port and head to Agios Charalampos Church. From there we will continue in the old central path uphill all the way to Stavrologgos following red markings.
We will cross the valley of Stavrologgos and reach Agios Athanasios church where is our first break.
After Agios Athanasios, we continue uphill and then downhill to Makriloggos. The path here is wide, paved and beautiful.
After Profitis Elias crossroads, we walk through Makriloggos, the fertile highlands of Methana, and head to Sterna Gamprou, the mysterious abandoned settlement on the mountais.
There is our second break for rest, on the impressive threshing fileds.
Then we walk downhill to Kameni Chora through a really nice forested path. The last meters, we walk on the road to the parking area of the volcano.
There, we will have a small party and the return buses will be waiting to get us back where we started.

Need to consider
The path is here [gpx]. (We are walking the route in the opposite direction.
The distance we are walking is 9km and we are climbing 600m. The path is considered difficult.
It is a beautiful but difficult hiking path, therefore you have to be in good physical shape to join us, we expect to walk abt 5 hours in mountainous terrain.
Suitable hiking shoes, 2ltrs of water, snacks, clothes to change and a light anorak are mandatory to join us. It is recommended to carry then in a back pack.
There are several exits to roads where somebody can quit and get picked up by car.
At the volcano we will have a small party.
Buses can take you back where we started.

Our vision
We would like ‘Methana Crossing’ to become a yearly event. People who love natura and Methana to gather and walk together and meet each other.
Walking this path we want to explore our limits.
Each one of us should live a lifetime experience.
We would like to show the alternative way of developing Methana and preserving at the same time their unique character and the natural wealth of the their volcanic nature which is neglected and forgotten.

It is advisable to register early so we have the time to prepare.
People who are interested in barbeque and return bus should register latest by Monday 17/10 at Katheti.
